Episode – 031 Debunking Those Pesky Gym Myths

Recently, one of Kelly’s friends told her that she doesn’t feel comfortable going to the gym. That fear of judgment from other gym-goers is very real, especially if you’re an older person, but ultimately it’s a myth that keeps us from realizing our full potential. In fact, a lot of misconceptions about the gym and weight training can end up holding us back.

In this episode, Kelly explores and debunks the myths keeping us from going to the gym and provides some helpful tips for getting yourself out of the house and into the training room more often.

The Finer Details of This Episode:

– Addressing those self-conscious fears of going to the gym.

– Finding alternatives to a gym when life gets in the way.

– Looking for digital alternatives to personal trainers.

Quotes:

“I do believe that gym, or at least weights, are pretty much a magic bullet when it comes to health.”

“I think one of the silver bullets to our health is doing a little weight-lifting here and there.”

“The path to wealth and freedom tends to be through fitness.”

  1. Hi Kelly – I signed up for your AngelTiger Fit series at the beginning, but must admit, most of them are still in my “to watch / to do” pile of e-mails. Sadly, I struggle with e-mails that I can’t read and “dispose of” in a few minutes on the spot. That being said, I wholeheartedly agree with the points you’ve made in Episode 031 regarding people’s gym apprehensions. Your comment about finding a spot in the back of the room is exactly what I’ve done in spin classes for over 10 years – watching the clock, my HR, and “listening to my body”, I still come out dripping wet every time despite doing my own thing.
Most of my business at FIT SENSE is constructive body-mind-spirit work with clients whose health has deteriorated to the point where they HAVE to do something if they want to be able to continue getting around for another few years. Forget about six-pack abs, some of these folks have trouble getting out of a chair, but they’re in a gym, working out with my encouragement and guidance.
God Bless you, and keep up the great work!
