Fitness has been a BIG part of most of my adult life. Fitness is NOW my lifestyle…….I was a runner for many years; ran every morning… but after my son was born, I was unable to resume running without back pain, and that’s when I discovered I had some serious lower back issues.

When I was about 58, I had a lower lumbar fusion – S1 to L5. It was partly genetic and partly those years of schlepping huge plans to the City of Houston Permitting Center. There was a time when i really believed I might end up wheelchair bound….that scared the hell out of me.

Anyway, after my surgery, I was determined to be as healthy as I could be, since I had grandkids I wanted to enjoy. So, when I turned 60, I hired an awesome trainer, Dustin Jackson, who is still training me today. We are generally working out 3 to 4 times a week with weights, and cardio (elliptical, cycle, treadmill) pretty much every day…. BTW, Dustin is not just any trainer…he has his Masters in Sports Medicine and Dietetics, and is a Registered Massage Therapist as well…..

Since I am a goal-driven person, and somewhat competitive (mostly with myself), many years ago, Dustin encouraged me to do bodybuilding competitions. I was too afraid to put on a sparkly bikini and show my butt on stage… OMG! Well, I finally decided I better hurry up before I turned 70; and so that’s what I did… May 24, 2021, about 5 months ago, was the date I decided…..now this Storm Classic on October 30, was my 3rd show I’ve done since August 7 – and I’m having a blast! I’ll be 70 in March, 2022…… I still can’t believe I’m that old!

The bodybuilding community has been so welcoming to me, and I am just enjoying the ride. I had no idea that I would be inspiring so many people! I just thought I would challenge myself to get out of my comfort zone, and try out the competition thing. As it turns out, I’ve been able to inspire many people that it is never too late for fitness! Once you MAKE THE DECISION that you’re worth it, then you can begin to execute it….

I can’t think of a better way than bodybuilding to rock my 70’s fitness jam!💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼☺️🏆🏆🏆

Another BIG reason I decided to go for bodybuilding at my age was to inspire my 12-year-old granddaughter, Gianna, that she can do anything at any age, with determination and persistence. I want her to remember that long after I am gone. She calls me her “Badass Grandma”.
